Job Description

IFS Sustainability strategy is focused on excellence in our own business, supporting our customers to meet their sustainability goals, and achieving broader positive impact in the communities we operate in.

The Sustainability Reporting Intern’s role will assist with data collection, analysis, and the preparation of key sustainability disclosures, including IFS’ sustainability report, industry rankings submissions, and internal progress updates. The focus of this role is the smooth delivery of sustainability year-end reporting and will include some specific regular tasks but also has ad hoc tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about sustainability and looking to gain hands-on experience in corporate sustainability reporting. The role will sit within our central sustainability team and report to Global Sustainability Consultant.

We are looking for candidates that are enthusiastic, resilient, self-motivated and thrive working within an international organization.

Successful candidates will be located in Sri Lanka.

Tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Assist in accurate gathering and verifying sustainability data across departments.
  • Support the preparation of key sustainability year-end disclosures, such as IFS Sustainability Report and Sustainability Fact Sheet.
  • Contribute to aligning sustainability disclosures with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements, including double materiality assessments and ESRS mapping.
  • Monitor best practice and trends in sustainability and support on benchmarking exercises such as EcoVadis.
  • Help maintain internal sustainability data tracking tools and dashboards.
  • Leverage automation and AI to optimize and simplify reporting workflows.
  • Collaborate with departments such as HR, Operations, Legal, and Finance to support disclosure processes.
  • Draft content for internal and external sustainability communications.
  • Assist with project management tasks and timelines related to sustainability reporting cycles.
  • Work with Marketing and Comms to improve sustainability awareness through internal and external posts, blogs, case studies and infographics.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Strong desire to pursue and develop a career in Sustainability.
  • Basic understanding of ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, CSRD, SASB, TCFD) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of EU CSRD disclosure standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization
  • Interest in corporate sustainability and ESG strategy.
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Experience of using MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. as well as being technically confident and curious to expand knowledge.
  • A team player, willing and able to support fellow team members.
  • Good communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Be self-motivated and have a proactive mindset.
  • Ability to multitask and rise to the challenge of large volumes of work during peak periods of activity and the ability to deal with conflicting priorities.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate / graduate in Sustainability or a related field preferred.
  • Previous internship experience in Sustainability is beneficial.
