Pender Ventures is the private technology company investing arm of PenderFund Capital Management Inc. (“PCM”) an independent, employee-owned, value-based investment firm managing over $3.7B in assets across private and public equities and fixed income.

We are seeking an Analyst to join and grow with our team. In this role, you will support the investment team with rigorous financial analysis and modeling while working closely with portfolio companies to enhance their operational performance. You will play a key role in identifying key business drivers and helping companies develop frameworks for long-term success.

Responsibilities will include:

Financial Modeling and Assessment

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models to support investment decisions, portfolio valuations, and scenario analysis.
  • Conduct thorough financial assessments of prospective investments, analyzing business models, revenue streams, and unit economics.
  • Prepare investment memos and presentations summarizing findings for the investment committee.

Investment Process and Due Diligence Support

  • Monitoring prospective investments, creating alerts, preparing / managing first contact materials and working with the investment team on high interest companies.
  • Contribute to all aspects of the due diligence process, including leading the financial due diligence , assessing market dynamics and competition, and evaluating risks.
  • Research target industries, competitors, and market trends to develop insights and inform investment theses.
  • Assist in preparing materials for fundraising and investor relations, incorporating financial data and insights.

Portfolio Support and Operational Metrics

  • Work with portfolio companies on an as needed basis to create and refine operating metrics, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and scalability.
  • Analyze financial and operational performance, providing actionable recommendations to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with management teams to design dashboards and reporting tools for ongoing performance tracking.

Continuous Improvement

  • Help optimize internal processes for evaluating and managing investments, ensuring best practices in financial analysis and reporting.
  • Support capital allocation decisions by providing data-driven insights into portfolio performance and resource requirements.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, MBA) are an asset.
  • 1–3 years of experience in financial analysis, investment banking, private equity, management consulting, venture capital, or a similar field.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced financial modeling), financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg, CapIQ), and presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint).
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow modeling, and valuation techniques.
  • Experience conducting research using a range of data sources and translating analysis to presentations / papers to communicate insights. Exceptional ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Experience developing key performance indicators (KPIs) or operational metrics for businesses.
  • Analytical Mindset: Proactive and curious, with a passion for uncovering insights and solving complex problems.
  • Excellent time and project management skills: detail-oriented, proactive and self-motivated.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

We are sharing that compensation for this role will include an estimated salary between $90,000 - $110,000 per year, along with a commission and bonus package_._ In determining final salary, Pender considers many factors including the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, job responsibilities, market conditions, position location and internal equity. Our aim is to ensure fair compensation practices that align with industry standards while acknowledging the unique value and expertise each individual brings to the role. The final base salary for the offer will be presented as part of a competitive compensation package.
